This piece fought me hard yesterday, during the inking/painting.
I thought I'd eat lunch in the little park near my work and work on this painting under the trees in a place that was pleasing to the eye. Clear, sunny spring day. Shouldn't be a problem, right?
But it was windy! This paper is thick, but it was still no match for the gusts of wind that kept lifting every part that wasn't held down by my left hand. I'd be JUST about to put my brush down in a certain spot, then the wind would come and lift the paper up into my brush. I ended up putting a few big globs of brown or white in unexpected places.
Also, my white gouache was acting very strange. I think the thin plastic bowl lid (originally it topped some yummy soup that I got at the commissary) had some oil or butter on it or something. The white gouache kept balling up and once I got it onto the paper it gathered up into little globby balls and wouldn't absorb into the paper at all. It mixed like oil and waterβ¦which is to say, it didn't.
But, even though I had to keep adjusting for wind and lumpy paint, in the end it turned out okay (the process of scanning and adjusting the levels always seems to make the bad stuff go away)

Needless to say, it pivots to go up walls too.
I want to fave EVERYTHING you draw, but that would just be silly.
